When the Coalition for the Common Good was founded in 2023, neither Antioch University nor Otterbein University was looking for a merger or acquisition. The CCG represented something new.

The Antioch University Board of Governors, the fiduciary Board for the university at the time, resigned, becoming an advisory Board, while the CCG Board became Antioch’s fiduciary Board. The new CCG Board was comprised of four Antioch appointed Directors, four Otterbein appointed Directors and one independent Director who was selected by the eight appointed Directors. Legally, Antioch became the CCG; they are one and the same corporation. The CCG also selected reserve powers over Otterbein, although Otterbein remains a separate corporation with its own fiduciary Board. The structure legally binds the universities together, but allows them to retain their historic branding, marketing and programs.

As you can see in the diagram below, the Antioch division exists wholly within the CCG; they are one and the same. Otterbein, a separate corporation, exists outside the CCG with some limited reserve powers.
