The Coalition for the Common Good
An Update from the Coalition for the Common Good Board of Directors
September 28, 2026
We welcome today’s decision by the Greene County Common Pleas Court lifting the temporary restraining order that had paused implementation of the Coalition for the Common Good Board’s August 28 actions. The ruling allows the Board to return to good governance and move forward with the governance actions it determined were necessary to protect Antioch University’s stability, strengthen accountability and ensure responsible fiduciary oversight.
The CCG Board took those actions after careful review and with Antioch University’s long-term interests in mind. They included dissolving the Antioch Advisory Board, a non-fiduciary advisory body, and returning its delegated responsibilities to the CCG Board and its Antioch Standing Committee. These changes are now in effect.
This decision confirms that the temporary pause should not continue to stand in the way of responsible governance. While the underlying litigation continues, the Board will file a motion to dismiss and will continue to defend the authority and obligations it has held since the Coalition was formed.
We know the events of recent weeks have been difficult for those of us who care deeply about Antioch University. Students deserve to pursue their education with confidence. Faculty and staff deserve clarity and stability as they carry out the University’s mission. Alumni and supporters deserve reassurance that Antioch University’s distinctive identity and values will endure. These are the commitments at the heart of the CCG and what we are determined to deliver.
We also know there will continue to be accusations and rhetoric from those who oppose these actions. The facts remain straightforward: Antioch University is part of the Coalition for the Common Good; the CCG Board is the fiduciary governing board; and the Board has both the authority and the responsibility to act when governance structures are no longer serving students, faculty, staff or the institution’s future.
Antioch University is central to the Coalition for the Common Good and to our shared vision for a more accessible and equitable future in higher education. We will move forward with clarity and resolve, protect Antioch University’s distinctive identity and mission, and focus on building the strong, sustainable future its students and community deserve.

Update on Access to Corporate Records
September 25, 2026
Yesterday, the Greene County Court of Common Pleas modified the temporary restraining order in the matter involving the Coalition for the Common Good and Antioch Advisory Board.
The order requires the Antioch Advisory Board to provide CCG with access to specified corporate records, on a read-only basis, immediately or as soon as reasonably practicable.
CCG welcomes the court’s order and remains focused on fulfilling its governance and fiduciary responsibilities.
An Update from the Coalition for the Common Good Board of Directors
September 14, 2026
The Greene County Common Pleas Court heard arguments today from both parties regarding the restrictions that have paused implementation of the Coalition for the Common Good Board’s August 28 actions. The judge determined that additional time was needed to consider the arguments presented and extended the temporary restraining order for two weeks. A decision from the judge on this matter is expected within the next 14 days.
This is a complicated legal matter, and today’s outcome is not unexpected. We are encouraged that the judge is taking additional time to carefully review the extensive materials provided and consider the arguments presented today. We continue to believe that the CCG Board acted within its legal and fiduciary authority, and we remain confident in our position.
We anticipate additional rulings shortly from the Court granting mutually agreed-upon relief from certain elements of the original temporary restraining order. Additionally, as is standard in most Greene County court cases, the judge will order both parties to participate in mediation, which we expect will begin in the coming weeks.

The Coalition for the Common Good (CCG) was founded on a shared belief: that working together, universities can expand opportunity, strengthen their distinctive missions and better serve their students and communities. That belief continues to guide us. Antioch University is central to the CCG’s purpose and future, and we are deeply committed to its success.
We recognize that the recent governance dispute has created uncertainty and concern for people who care deeply about Antioch. Behind every question about boards and bylaws are students pursuing their goals, faculty dedicated to teaching, staff supporting their university and alumni proud of its legacy. You deserve clear information about what is happening and what it means for the institution you value.
First, it’s helpful to understand the structure established when the Coalition was formed in 2023. As part of that affiliation, the corporation formerly known as Antioch University became the CCG. Antioch University continued as an operating division within that corporation, and the CCG Board of Directors became its fiduciary board, responsible for its financial health and institutional well-being. This means, legally, the CCG and Antioch are the same legal entity.
As a planned part of that transition, members of the former Antioch University Board of Governors resigned from that board, that board was sunsetted and those individuals were appointed to the newly established Antioch Advisory Board. That advisory board was given specific responsibilities related to Antioch University’s operations. The CCG Board also has an Antioch Standing Committee with certain delegated responsibilities for the University.
Disagreements have since arisen over the respective authority of the CCG Board and the Antioch Advisory Board. On August 28, 2026, the CCG Board adopted a resolution to dissolve the advisory board and relegate all authority that it had previously delegated back to the CCG Board and its Antioch Standing Committee. Our intent was to simplify the governance structure to improve decision-making and help Antioch move forward.
The Antioch Advisory Board challenged that action in court. On September 1, 2026, the Court temporarily restrained implementation of the resolution (without yet having the benefit of CCG’s position or a full record). We will comply with the Court’s order and present our position through the legal process.
Even as this disagreement proceeds, our responsibility is to keep Antioch’s students, mission and future at the center of our decisions. We respect the University’s distinctive identity and its tradition of shared governance. We expect and intend that the development and management of Antioch’s curriculum will continue to be led by its faculty and academic leadership through those processes.
Our partnership has already produced meaningful results for Antioch:
- Five new degree programs with 12 areas of emphasis,
- $5 million invested in growing and integrating those programs,
- Nearly $1 million in annual operational savings through joint contracts
- More than $1.5 million in new tuition revenue.
These investments reflect our commitment to expanding opportunities for students and building a sustainable future for Antioch.
There is more work to do, including rebuilding trust and helping our community find a path forward. We will use this site to share information and updates as developments unfold. Throughout this process, our commitment remains clear: to support the people who make Antioch University what it is, preserve the mission that gives its work meaning and help it thrive for generations to come.
